This beginning course teaches the basics for learning how to draw. The goal of the course is to be able to draw what you see through the use of proportioning, negative space, the modeling effect and perspective. We will concentrate on various shapes, including spheres, squares, and cylinders. They are our foundation and will help us to draw landscapes and still lifes. We will touch briefly on portraiture and abstract. Various exercises help you build your hand, eye, brain connection. Graphite pencil and drawing paper will be our tools. I want to concentrate on how to draw, not the different pencils, pens, etc. You will be pleasantly surprised how quickly you will improve your drawing, even after the first class.
Instructor's note for online instruction:
After each class, I invite and encourage students to send me an image of their work. This arrangement makes it so that I may critique student work privately. I critique and make notes and drawings, all to move the student forward in understanding the concepts of drawing better and send it back to the student.
