« back to classes page
In this course, students will have fun learning to express themselves through songwriting. Whether you are a budding, blossoming, or seasoned songwriter, this class will give you new and helpful songwriting tools. The ability to read music or play an instrument is not needed. This course accommodates all levels. Sharing your songs/lyrics in class is optional but encouraged, with feedback time permitting. Co-writing with other students is encouraged.
We'll be doing fun exercises in class and have weekly homework assignments. Learn how to get your message across by using your own words and natural speech patterns, find new ways to brainstorm, organize your thoughts, and interesting ways to express ideas.  We will build phrases into sections; create effective contrast; discover new rhymes and rhythms; match words to a melody; and discover the functions of verse, chorus, and bridge and how to create them.
As a voice technician and coach, I can help you understand what words or sounds make something easier (and enjoyable) to sing and how to make sure the words and music match in what they say and how they fit together with the melody. One-on-one sessions are optional.
