Beginning Spanish for the True Beginner

Beginning Spanish for the True Beginner is the first step, in a continuous process, for students interested in learning Spanish from the ground up. Students with no prior or minimal Spanish experience are invited to learn in a fun, interactive, and low-stress classroom environment. Students develop the basic vocabulary for a variety of topics for everyday situations. The topics may include the alphabet, vowels, pronunciation, numbers, greetings, telling time, colors, likes and dislikes, basic grammar, and exposure to available Spanish learning resources.

As students progress, new thematic units and vocabulary are introduced, such as weather, calendar, clothing, family, careers, daily routines and activities, foods, common prepositions, feelings and characteristics, transportation, and directions. Through games, music, movement, paired and group activities, simple conversations, dictations, and textbook, students learn to comprehend, ask, and answer basic questions and follow Spanish instructions. Students explore writing and reading using basic vocabulary, phrases, and sentences in simple Spanish. This introductory class will prepare students to comfortably transition, when ready, to a more academic Beginning Spanish class where the language structures are taught.
