Are you interested in the Portuguese language and the culture of the countries where it is spoken? Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the world, with more than 230 million speakers worldwide. In addition to Portugal and Brazil, Portuguese is spoken in 7 other countries and it shares some similarities with the other Romance languages (Spanish, Italian and French), which facilitates their understanding and learning as well.

This is an online course designed for beginning students who are interested in acquiring basic communication skills in Portuguese for various reasons. For example: to travel to a Portuguese-speaking country for leisure or business, to conduct academic research on a topic related to these countries, to acquire additional foreign language skills for higher education purposes or simply to gain some knowledge about the Lusophone culture. You will practice the pronunciation of basic words and learn useful phrases and key sentence structures while acquiring essential cultural knowledge on a variety of topics. A wide range of online techniques and tools will be used, no books or exams required. By the end of the course, class participants will be able to understand common greetings and carry on simple exchanges in Portuguese related to everyday situations.
