Are you interested in a highly interactive beginning Portuguese class? Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the world, with more than 230 million speakers worldwide. In addition to Portugal and Brazil, Portuguese is spoken in 8 other countries and it shares some similarities with the other Romance languages (Spanish, Italian and French), which facilitates their understanding and learning as well. This course is designed for beginning students who are interested in acquiring basic communication skills before traveling to a Portuguese-speaking country, for leisure or business, or simply to gain some knowledge about the culture of these countries. You will practice basic pronunciation and learn useful words, key phrases, and sentence structures while receiving some cultural tips. A wide range of techniques and tools will be used, but there will be no books or tests required as the class will emphasize practical conversation. By the end of the course, class participants will be able to understand common greetings and carry on simple conversations in Portuguese related to everyday situations.
