This class explores drawing in black and white with the addition of a bit of color. Using a variety of pens and coloring tools (colored pencils, markers, colored ink pens, etc.) we'll work with line drawing, stippling, cross hatching and other fill techniques to create volume, perspective and balance. Subject matter will include free form warm up exercises, still lifes, working from photos or nature on a small and large scale as well as abstract and fantasy images. New techniques will be introduced frequently with follow-up exercises. Personal exploration and individual work is encouraged. Time permitting, we will experiment with using Chinese grinding stones to make our own inks, both black and colored.
