Fascinated by horses? You will experience the horse from the ground up. You’ll learn to properly walk a horse, groom them and you’ll explore a gentle horse, up close. Learn to read a horses’ body language as you interact with them and learn how to be safe at all times. Learn about general first aid for horses as well as a variety of natural, alternative training approaches to equine behavior and management. Exercises to better understand how the horse thinks, feels and why they react the way they do, will be utilized. You’ll explore the therapeutic benefits of the horse and how therapy on horseback improves the life of individuals with special needs. We will all cover emergency evacuations with horses and how to keep them safe when natural disaster happens. You’ll learn to apply basic ground manners and appropriate body language when dealing with horses. Behavioral aspects of equine care and husbandry will also be discussed. There will be handouts to help expand the class scope and give it some take-away value. Although this class gets up close and personal with horses, no riding will be involved.
