This two-part course explores the life, career, and significance of pioneering architect Julia Morgan. Part I will explore how Julia Morgan became architect, covering her family background as well as her education at Berkeley and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Part II will explore Julia Morgan's architectural practice, looking at a select commissions, including buildings at Mills College, YWCA buildings, and Hearst Castle, among others.
