As more of us live longer, much research is being done by Conscious Aging groups to identify empowering strategies that will help us make the best use of our additional years for continued growth, personal expression, and deep enjoyment. In this class I combine my research of these strategies with decades of experience serving a broad range of older adults including planning and implementing innovative programs and services, facilitating discussion groups, giving presentations and teaching classes and workshops. Each student will receive a workbook designed to stimulate reflection and motivate implementation of seven optimal aging strategies.

Much of the content of the class comes from the book From Age-ing to Sage-ing: A Revolutionary Approach to Growing Older by Zalman Schacter-Shalomi with additional material from dozens of other readings as well as lectures, conferences and workshops presented by organizations such as Second Journey and Sage-ing International. Attending five weeklong experiential seminars held in Italy by WYSE International and AgeSong's Eldership program helped me take the information even deeper
