Rome Revealed: Its Food, Wines, and Secrets

The just-opened and richly-frescoed Houses of Augustus and Livia on the Palatine Hill; Mussolini’s modernist EUR quarter and his Square Colosseum (now HQ of Fendi); the Museum of the Walls of Rome (in the Aurelian Walls!); a subterranean tour on a Roman street beneath St. Peter’s Basilica; 20 captivating fountains by night; the Art Nouveau Quartiere Coppede; a winery on the ancient Appian Way; a step-by-step guide to a typical outdoor Rome market—this is just a representative sampling of the delights of Rome filling this course. Also quite filling, in more immediate sense, will be the Roman dishes prepared by Kathryn, such as Roman-style bruschetta, suppli al telefono, spaghetti alla carbonara, puntarelle, lingua di bue, and filetti di baccala, pisseli e prosciutto, patina de piris. Each class session will include an antipasto, an entrée, and a dessert. Yum! Dave will illustrate the wines produced nearby, and pour the crisp and delicious Frascati Superiore, plus others more unusual and surprising wines that “i romani” have always enjoyed.
