“I’ve been studying Italian for X years, and I still can’t get it out of my mouth when I’m in Italy!”
This course is designed to help with that. It is for students who already have a basic understanding of Italian, including the main verbs, present tense and (some) past tenses (passato prossimo
), (some) direct and indirect objects, etc. We will now look a bit at the “imperfetto
” past tense and pronouns. That said, the grammar we will be using in class is not complicated or advanced, just applied.
The “65 Important Tourist Verbs” will include many you certainly already know, and you are probably familiar with many of the other grammar elements as well. But we will be concentrating more on the interactive patterns
that Italians use in conversation, the vehicles
that will enable you to “get the stuff out.”
This will be a very “active participation” class. You will be studying exercises involving patterns at home between classes (so you’ll need some free time to do this—in line at the coffee shop, at the stop light, while your spouse is watching TV, etc.), but in class you will get plenty of oral practice, through conversations with other students and role-playing with your instructor-waiter-cop-shopkeeper-vucumprà
I think it will be a fun class, and I hope you can join us!
The course fee covers a Course Reader. Before registering, if you would like any more information, or if you have questions about your own level of Italian for the course, please contact the instructor at email@example.com. Once registered, students must email instructor to receive course materials before the first class.
