All art is practice. The real art is our life.
In this class we will explore our creative nature experientially through multi-media art materials along with writing exercises. We will learn and view examples of how art making has functioned historically and cross culturally as play, a healing modality, spiritual practice and community ritual. A presentation will demonstrate how art has fulfilled these functions and will serve as inspiration for engaging in experiential exercises. There will be a variety of art materials to choose from including: water based paint, pastels, collage, pens etc. We will experiment with Imaginal Dialogue, a way of giving a voice to the art/images that have been created, through writing. There will be time for reflection and sharing of our experiences with our class community.
A handout on the Principles and Guidelines for Creative Expression will be presented with discussion to follow.
We start with the assumption that all humans are inherently creative but may need to remove some blocks to that natural flow. In an atmosphere of acceptance, we will practice being in the present moment and trusting our intuitive nature.
