Beginning Spanish for the True Beginner is the first step, in a continuous process, for students interested in learning Spanish from the ground up. Students, with no prior or minimal experience with Spanish, are invited to learn in a fun, interactive and low-stress classroom envionment. Students will develop basic vocabulary for a variety of topics for everyday situations here and abroad. The topics include the alphabet, vowels, pronunciation, numbers, greetings, telling time, colors, shapes, clothing, likes and dislikes, and exposure to available Spanish learning resources. As students progress, new thematic units and vocabulary will be introduced such as weather, calendar (holidays, days of the week, months, seasons), family, careers, daily routines and activities, likes and dislikes, foods, common prepositions, feelings and characteristics, transpotation, and directions. Through games, music, movement, paired and group activities, simple conversations, dictations and the creation of a personal dictionary and books; students learn to comprehend, ask and answer basic questions and follow instructions in Spanish. Students explore writing and reading using basic vocabulary, phrases and sentences in simple Spanish. This introductory class will prepare students to comfortably transition, when read, to a more academic Beginning Spanish class where the structures of the language are taught.
