Taiko is the ancient Japanese drum that is known as the heartbeat of Japan. It distinguishes itself from other forms of percussion through the way the whole body is incorporated into playing. Much like martial arts, Taiko is about harmonizing your mind, body, and spirit together with the drum. A simple instrument, Taiko also allows you to express yourself through music and connect with others in the group. This two-weekend introductory course will teach participants the basics of playing Taiko and simple songs. No prior experience necessary. Taiko is a physical activity. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water.
