This orchestra class will provide an opportunity for amateur and professional musicians to read a variety of classical orchestral works for pure enjoyment. With the absence of the added stress of a concert, musicians will be able to focus on social and musical rewards such as meeting fellow musicians and, most importantly, maintaining and improving playing techniques during the summer. Each session/rehearsal will consist of sight-reading a variety of works from the standard orchestral repertoire. Rehearsals will concentrate on the basic elements of ensemble playing such as balance, tempo, rhythm, dynamics, intonation, and awareness of how a person’s part fits into the big picture to successfully read through each piece. Each session will also include the unique opportunity to experience the masterworks under the direction and tutelage of several different professional conductors from the greater Bay Area. Pre-registration required. Upon your registration please email the instructor at firstname.lastname@example.org indicating what instrument you play.
