« back to classes page
The morning will begin with a short lecture and demonstration of various palette knife painting techniques and techniques to learning how to be more loose and painterly when painting. After the demonstration students will proceed to experiment on their own. The instructor will give one on one help to each student. Once students feel comfortable with the techniques, there will be another demonstration on painting flowers on canvas. Students will paint a flower painting study that the instructor will provide.
After 1/2 hour lunch break, students will return to the studio for another demonstration on preparing a canvas by toning it with color. This will be in preparation for another painting using a photograph of a landscape for inspiration. Students may work from their own photographs on their phones or a color copy. The instructor will also have a variety of photographs for students to paint from as well. Throughout the afternoon students will learn to incorporate techniques that give them the results of added texture, color harmony, color mixing and building a painting that is impressionistic in style.
